I live on Long Island and hence MUST have a car. This last one has been giving me quite a headache as of late. Tires, wheels...who knew there was a difference, rims, hubcaps, come on who cares?!?!?!!? And then on Friday, while putting something in my trunk, my own car tried to decapitate me. Remember those old school cartoons where bugs bunny would hit someone on the head with a mallet and they would grow a big ole bump...that was me. The boy asked what my dream car was the other day...I said one with a driver!

So, I have been looking at buying a place, with a budget of max $500,000. I stumbled upon this little gem of a place.

I love this time of year. Real estate listings for the Hamptons seem to pop up every where. Today we have a 7 bedroom home that belongs to Richard Gere in Water Mill for $8.8 million. Not too many impressive interior shots, the rooms seem small and oddly decorated. And much to my dismay...no bathroom shots but I did include the kitchen. I love how when I saw the picture of the front of the house, I thought, um, kinda small, then I saw the side view...whoa thats a big house. I do love the property and the location. I imagine more Hamptons properties to be listed with the economic crises hitting those with billions too! I even read about a property being listed as a summer rental, in the Hamptons, for $900,000. Can't remember where I saw that but I will investigate!

I have signed up for the NJ Long Branch Half Marathon May 3, 2009. I have to officially start training Monday Feb 9th, thats 12 weeks out. I have joined NY Sports Club and I am ready. I also plan to lose 20 pounds during this venture. Wish me luck and I will keep you posted! I met with my trainer on Wed and here it is Saturday and I get more sore as the days go by. But its a good pain!

This has got to stop, Mr. President. The famous Rainbow room in Rockefeller Center has just been given eviction papers. The Cipriani family, who owns the restaurant is fighting the claim that they are behind on their 8.7 million dollar yearly (OMG) rent and will fight the eviction!

Marchesa Luisa Casati

One day reading an article in Vogue about the fashion label marchesa, I read how they named their line after the Marchesa Luisa Casati which prompted me to do a ton of research. I went out and bought the book, Infinite Variety, and read it in no time, I was so enthralled with this women and how she lived her life. Truly a role model for the young independent women and she lived in the early 1900's. I was reminded of her when I saw the pictures that the Paris apartment just posted. Thanks for the reminder and now, a few things about her. And if you want more, google her, you wont be disappointed.

She was born in 1881 and at the age of 15, both her parents had passed and she was the wealthiest woman in Italy.

She married the Marchese di Roma and had one child, a daughter, Marchesa Casati, she has 3 heirs, a granddaughter and 2 great grandsons. No mention of what came of her sister, but I am curious.

She served as a muse to many greats, haunted cities such as Venice where she was known to prowl the streets in a full length fur, usually with nothing under it and 2 cheetahs by her side.

She was an art and fashion muse, known for her raven locks, green eyes and black eye makeup, she even used to add some sort of poison/elixir to her eyes to make them stay open wider, for a more dramatic affect.

Due to her elaborate spending; houses, fashion, parties, she died on June 1, 1957 in London, penniless. But from what the book says, she was fabulous till the end!

Wedding Hair

I am a bridesmaids in 2 weddings this year, August and September and I really want to go for 2 different looks. We can pick our own dresses and both brides are being totally laid back. While I don't think I HAVE to get my hair and makeup done, I think I WANT to. So for one, I am thinking the above, since it will be hot and my hair may frizz it is best to be back. Christina Applegate is winning so far.

I am waiting for award season to be inspired and make my final decisions!

The House that Peter Pan Built

This home in South Kensington has been for sale for about a year now and with the hefty price tag of 6.75 millions pounds it might stay for sale. The home does have a magical history, JM Barrie supposedly wrote Peter Pan in this home and met Llewelyn Davies and her kids who inspired the story while living here. The home has 6 bedrooms and it looks like 3 floors. I know this is sacrilegious but I think if I could buy it, I would turn into 3 separate apartments, 1 per floor. And of course I would enhance and highlight all of the Victorian details.

So I get Gwyneth Paltrows newsletter, GOOP and for the most part I don't think it is her but I will play along with the game. The newsletter a few days ago was all about a post Holiday detox and I do love that idea. Wanted to share this recipe with you because it was one of the few that I actually knew what all the ingredients were.

For dressing:
1 large carrot, peeled and roughly chopped
1 large shallot, peeled and roughly chopped
2 tablespoons roughly chopped fresh ginger
1 tablespoon sweet white miso
2 tablespoons rice wine vinegar
1 tablespoon roasted sesame seed oil
1/4 cup grapeseed oil
2 tablespoons water
For salad:
1 head of baby gem lettuce (or any greens), roughly cut
1/4 red onion, thinly sliced
1/4 avocado, diced
Pulse the carrot, shallot and ginger in a blender until finely chopped. Scrape down the sides, add the miso, vinegar and sesame seed oil and whiz together. While the blender is going, slowly drizzle in the grapeseed oil and the water.
Combine the lettuce, onion and avocado in a bowl, drizzle with plenty of dressing and serve.

Chocolate Egg

As I am watching an Anthony Bourdain No Reservations marathon, Anthony goes to Spain (sigh) I love Spain! I had the pleasure of going about 4 years ago as a tourist. My dream is to go back to some of these locations as a regular or with a regular to see how the locals live, much as Mr. Bourdain gets to do.
In Barcelona, he visited a Chocolatier, Enric Roviva who is inspired by Gaudi and the architecture of the Barcelona skyline and makes the above Chocolate eggs. After he makes the complete egg, he places them outside, in the sun and watches them closely. As the chocolate starts to sweat and melt, all of a sudden it pops and the hole appears. The eggs are quickly brought back inside, sprayed with more chocolate and put up for sale for 50 Euros (the eggs are really quite big). Oh, I am in love, this place goes on the list!

Baby New Year originated in Greece, putting a baby in a basket and offering it to the Gods.

The Dutch eat Donuts, foods shaped in a circle/ring represent good luck, coming full circle.

Black eyed peas. legumes, and cabbage are all good luck food.

Buddhists squirt water on everyone, couldn't find the meaning, I would imagine a cleansing.

In Spain, they eat 12 grapes, one for each month, 12 happy months.

In Mexico they dress in certain colors, yellow=work, green=money, white=good health.

In Italy they throw old possessions out the window, out with the old.

Oh and it's winter here and summer there. Can't even imagine doing New Years on the beach. But I guess I don't have to travel as far as Australia (but any excuse to go would be great!) for the beach on New Years.

OK, so yes this is kinda silly, but it does seem like everyone is getting married next year. I am in 2 weddings and I have a friend who got engaged Christmas Eve and another who is about to be proposed to on New Years Eve. So all of this just gets a girl wishing and dreaming. This is all so silly for me because I am so pathetically single, but still, there is jewelry involved and that my dears is never silly.

I love sapphires (I get that from my mom) so I know there would have to be sapphires, I love the 3 stone rings, even though a friend has that, I used to love emerald cut and ascher cut and I love the dainty micro pave wedding band, especially because I want a big chunky ring...I love the contrast.

I think the winner is ring number #6. The big beautiful 3 stone sapphire. Luckily for my future husband, I have small hands. The one pictured is a whooping 8.28 carats of sapphires and 2 carats of diamonds, for $49,500, which would take up my entire hand. I guess I can leave the details up to the buyer! And really, husband to be, any of the above pictured would do just fine!

I was browsing some real estate listings and came across this weird house/compound in California that has 43 acres and 3 different dwellings but what really struck me was this fireplace. I would hope that when you were asleep, little elves would come out, clean, cook, and do your laundry!

Supposedly Miss Oprah is looking into buying this $49,000,000 home in Georgetown to be nearer to Obama. The website boosts 21 photos, but most are outdoor shots which made me nervous especially since they were all old and dark. No pics of bedrooms, bathrooms, or the kitchen (major red flag)! Seems like she would have to do a major renovation to the inside. The home itself and the grounds are stunning.

I am off to the BUST magazine Holiday Craftacular. I am a big fan of one of their vendors, VIVISun, she makes great jewelry, I already have 3 pieces, and I think I will add to my collection today!
I am so excited, I will report back tonight. I hope someone is selling red velvet cupcakes!
We might even try to go get a glimpse of that big ole tree in Rock Center! Geez I love the Holidays. And yes, I should be home today, cleaning, writing Christmas cards, studying and working out but...the city at Christmas is so much more fun!

A woman in Modesto California woke up a few weeks ago to find a Bentley parked in her driveway. Unsure if it was a gift, there was no bow or card, she called the police. Turns out the Bentley was stolen from a neighbors house and parked in her driveway...That's a sketchy story if I ever heard one! People ofModesto, lock up your Bentleys!

It's like the stray cat you take in...if you start to the feed the Bentley, it will never leave you. Does finders keepers losers weepers apply here?

Happy Weekend to you all! I have school all day tomorrow and then I must write my Christmas cards! I have been getting a few and it makes me nervous, Christmas is like 2 weeks away! Eek!

Hand Mirrors

I started to collect antique hand mirrors, I only have about 4 but I love them. They are like snow flakes, no 2 are alike and they are all so unique in their own right! Besides this is such a good gift for my Dad to buy me since he is an antiques collector!
I hope to have a huge guest bath/bedroom one day and decorate the wall with my collection.

OK, she is really not my favorite actress, I loved Friends but she was just OK in it. Now, I think she looks AMAZING, these pics of her in Vogue were stunning and considering some of the candid pics out there of her and her body, I don't think these are too airbrushed. I do give her a lot of credit for the whole Brangelina thing, that had to suck and I think she handled it with such grace and composer, because lets face it girls, we may not have been that mature. I may have drove to Angelina's house and cursed her out and maybe even egged her house, just to get even and really, it makes you feel better, sometimes! Oh, and I have a huge crush on John Mayer, I like them as a couple and I really just want her to be happy.

We had our first little snow shower here on Long Island last night into this morning! It was so nice to see my old friend back, I do love it so! Last day of training here in sunny and warm Florida. I always thought Florida was just a bunch of oldies going to early bird specials (sorry), but I think I have changed my mind. South Florida is quite nice and hip and happening.
But there is no place like home and I am happy to be heading home, see you in 12 hours Lucy!
Oh, and since you asked, training was great! I am looking forward to this next phase of my life!

I do hope you know who these guys are, I am kinda obsessed with each and every one of them! The first guy is Daniel Boulod and I have been lucky enough to eat at his restaurant in Vegas in the Wynn Hotel and it is so awesome. He also had a great show on a High Def channel called After Hours, where he would go to random restaurants and invite people to come have after hours parties, it was so awesome!

I have also been lucky enough to eat at Bobby Flays restaurants in NY and Vegas, I think he is so cute and I love his food!

Obsessed with Anthony Bourdain and his show on the Food Network! I think there is something so sexy about this guy! I have not eaten at his restaurant yet, but let me tell you it is on the list!

Last but not least, Mario Batali. Again, and I guess it sounds like all I do is talk about going out to eat, but I ate at his restaurant too, here in NY and he is a true culinary genius! I saw him at the REM concert at Jones Beach this summer, and it was my bday and I nearly had a heart attack. I could see his orange crocs from miles away and I knew it was him!

Now this is fun/funny. If you ever find yourself in Stockholm Sweden, try staying here, Jumbo Hostel. It's an actual plane at the actual airport converted into a Hostel. There is a private suite for those of us not thrilled with the idea of sharing sleeping quarters with random foreign strangers. What a cool idea!
